Corporate Social
Responsibility

Environmental concerns form part of our company policy. These include a waste reduction scheme and a system to recycle paper, plastic and cardboard. Effluent from our dyeing plant is treated in three stages using chemical/ physical treatment, a biological process and an artificial lagoon which ensures that local and interna tional environmental norms are complied with. The parameters are regularly checked by an accredited institute and the Company has been awarded an Environ mental Protection License

At ESKIMO we consider the treatment of effluent as not only essential, but ethically and morally expected from a family business with such close ties to the local com munity. ESKIMO has been approved for the Environmental Protection License (EPL) each and every year. All aspects of factory effluent are treated, with outgoing water being independently tested every 3 months and the final outlet to the water-course fully meeting local legislation.

Energy Management System

Bio Mass Energy

The Company uses a combination of renewable (Biomass) and non-renewable (Electricity and Diesel) energy sources in its day to day operations. At the Negombo factory, steam generated from the biomass boiler serves as the main source of power for the Dye house and steam tables, while electricity is used to meet all other energy requirements. Electricity remains the main source of energy at the Pallekele and Punanai factories. Diesel is used primarily for the purpose of filing the backup generators at each factory.

Solar Power System

The 1.5 MW rooftop solar energy projects which have been in the works for the past few years, got off the ground in 2020. The project, which started in mid-2020 with the commissioning of the first batch of rooftop solar panels at the Negombo facto ry is due to be completed in the first quarter of 2021.

Green Assets

Eskimo has been conscious of its carbon responsibility from its inception. This is evidenced by the tree plantation of nearly 7 acres covering almost 35% of the total land area in the Negombo main facility, a green asset Eskimo isdeservingly very proud of for its significant contribution towards reducing the company's carbon footprint.
